Fun! Isn't it!?

The Acropolis:

the Acropolis is a table mountain of 156 meters high. On it, there’s an ancient greek temple complex. It is in the middle of the city of Athens, wich is named after the godess Athena. On the Acropolis there are numerous temples, from wich the biggest is for Athena. Much of those temples is still standing today, and they are a excellent example of greek architecture trough the ages. Temples from different times have different architecture. The Athenians used to flee up the mountain when there was a really big threat, like when the Spartans attacked or something.

The oracle of Delphi.

The oracle of Delphi was a holy place for all ancient greeks. People believed that the gods where able to talk to humans  trough the mouth of a priest.

People came from all over greece to ask answers from the gods. There is a tale of a great king who asked advice to the gods about a war. At the far side of a river there where the Persians, and he asked if he should battle with them. The oracle said: if you cross the river, a great empire will be destroyed. Full of confidence, the king entered the battle, and lost. His empire was destroyed, so the oracle was right!

The Oracle was stationed in the Temple of Appollo, god of the sun. He was supposed to know everything, because his rays of sunlight saw and heard everything.

Though there are less ruins here then at the acroplolis, it;s still a great experience.

Mount Olympus.

Our third historical spot is Mount Olympus. The top is 2917 meters high.

At this mountain, the gods were said to live. They lived there in great luxury, with bronze floors in great palaces. It is especially named as the home uppergod Zeus, who was said to throw lightning bolts from there.

City: Corinth.

This city has it’s roots in the ancient greek time. It was one of the most important city states in greece, because of it’s strategic position. It formed the connection between the mainland and the peninsula(schiereiland). This also made sure that they could trade very easily. The city was destroyed by the Romans, and rebuilt by them too. Corinth soon became the most welfaring city in Greece again.

There are few remains of the old city, but there are some.

City: Sparta.

Who doesn’t knows it, Sparta, the ancient Greek city. It was the most military city-state of all, and it was one of most powerful, too. It is also one of the oldest, because it existed in the Mycenaean period too. The life in the city was hard, and they had a lot of slaves. Their soldiers were trained from the age of seven in stealth, stealing, battle and tactics. This made that sparta had the most powerful army at the time. There are some ruins remaining, and there are musea in the new city.

Crete

It was the home of Mycenaean kings before the Greeks came, who colonized it.

There are still ruins of great palaces of the Mycenaeans. The Greeks had colonies

At the island, but it wasn’t very important, cause of the lack of farmground.
